It seemed strange to be feeling so excited about 2009 and what it may bring, but then I found out that all of my friends who either work for a business or have their own are just as excited if not more.
I cannot really seem to put my finger on the sole reason, but I feel like this recession, or whatever you consider it to be has put us all on a level playing field in many respects.
This year could give you the chance to start new ventures based on the potential new online High Street, as the visible one seems to be disappearing fast. Maybe it will bring a change in career not considered before for those who are currently experiencing redundancy in their current roles.
It certainly should make us all take stock of how crazy the spending levels had become and be more wary in how and where we spend money in the future. I certainly think that wise investment in your business and choosing suppliers wisely needs to continue, but maybe the travel expenses and boozy lunches will be curbed for a while.
It does seem extremely weird that the High Street is melting away in front of our own eyes, I think it is sad because the stores disappearing are quite iconic, but maybe it is just a reality call of how our world is changing. As consumers we are becoming more picky with what we buy, taking peer-to-peer recommendation more seriously and our habits and lives are moving more online.
I spent my Christmas surrounded by those I love and that too ignited my passion and excitement for the coming year. No matter what happens to us all, which has been created by those we have no ‘real’ relationship with, we will always have those that matter around to see us through it.
So, I say bring on 2009 and all its challenges, lets rise to them and know that this bubble will burst at some stage and in the meantime make the most of what you have, take stock of new ideas, ventures and opportunities and see if 2009 is actually a blessing in disguise.
